Colas Rail UK, working as a key partner for the Midland Metro Alliance, have resumed the second phase of the Birmingham Westside Metro extension to Edgbaston.
On 23rd March, the Midland Metro Alliance decided to temporarily pause all construction sites in regards to the UK Government guidelines. As further advice and clarification were provided by the authorities and thanks to the proactivity of our teams, works could resume on 3rd April with adapted procedures.
Works such as drainage and pavement laying were to first to begin on sites. In parallel, replacement works on a section of track that had come to the end of its operational life on the existing West Midlands Metro tram system.
