Tracks

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of the Var department in France launched a major freight revival project on the “La Seyne-Brégaillon” port, which totals 2.3km of track of which 1.6km in the port area. This non-electrified single track is connected to the service tracks of La Seyne-Six-Fours, on the Marseille-Vintimille line.

This project will allow goods, vehicles and containers to be transported directly from the port to Paris and Calais in the North. In addition, this rail connection to the European network will thus reinforce the site accessibility to meet the ramp-up of its freight activities. The project will also make it possible to accommodate 22.5 tonne D4 load convoys. Eventually, one to two trains per week will run to transport the containers, thus replacing road transport, to reach northern Europe and the United Kingdom.

In 2018, the CCI therefore chose the alliance composed of Colas Rail (leader) and Colas (roads and service infrastructure, drainage, excavation and signalling works) to carry out the track renewal works.

Colas Rail’s scope of works includes:

  • Removal of 1500 meters of track and 4 turnouts
  • Supply and installation of 1500 meters of ballast track
  • Laying of 105 meters of concrete track on the structure
  • Refurbishment of 3 concrete level crossings
