Overhead contact lines have been our area of expertise for over 100 years: we contribute to our customers’ success by offering customised solutions and innovative products for project engineering and installation of contact line systems, and by developing and marketing contact line components.
History of the subsidiary
Ever since Hermann Kummler and Edwin Matter joined forces back in 1903, our activities in the Swiss and international contact line sector have been the foundation for our success. For the last century, we have played our part in the ongoing development of contact line products and systems, and we have provided installation services for railways, trams and trolleybuses.
Presentation
For trams, trolleybuses or railways: Kummler+Matter provides support for contact lines throughout their entire lifetimes with a wide range of services: special product developments, project engineering for complex contact line projects, supply and delivery of components, and on-site installation by our specialist staff.
As a developer of special products, Kummler+Matter is an independent product house: we create high- calibre products that are both innovative and marketable. Examples include a grounding control based on a new concept, an innovative multi-track cantilever and, in particular, a newly-designed family of innovative KUSEC section insulators for trams (1.5/3 kV DC) and railways (15+25 kV AC/3 kV DC). Another milestone along the road to cutting-edge technology: the new overhead line maintenance vehicles from Volvo Group (Schweiz) AG, with large aerial work platforms by Kummler+Matter Ltd. Equipped with new hybrid technology, a built-in remote control operating unit, 3D surround-view cameras and sensors, these vehicles are the key to safe and efficient work on contact lines.

The KUSEC family of section insulators
Only a few months after they were unveiled for the first time at InnoTrans 2018, the KUSEC family of section insulators from Kummler+Matter Ltd. were installed in Zurich, Geneva and Vienna. In compliance with the required guidelines, KUSEC section insulators are installed in a way that enables the pantograph to travel smoothly over the entire length of the component, even on high-speed lines.

Rail projects
Kummler+Matter Ltd. has carried out construction work for all the major rail projects of the last 15 years. The list begins with the construction of the new line between Zurich and Berne (with an electrified track length of about 89 km and an operating speed of 200 km/h). Planning and construction work was also undertaken for the Lötschberg Base Tunnel (with an electrified track length of about 62 km and an operating speed of 250 km/h). In the third and largest project in 2016, Kummler+Matter commissioned the contact line for the Gotthard Base Tunnel (length: 2 x 57 km; length of catenary installed in tunnel: approx.130 km, with a maximum operating speed of 250 km/h).

Trams and trolleybuses
For many decades, Kummler+Matter Ltd. has offered a complete solution for planning and constructing contact line systems for trolleybuses and trams in 14 Swiss cities.

Geschichte der Tochtergesellschaft
Seit der Zusammenschliessung von Hermann Kummler und Edwin Matter im Jahr 1903, ist der nationale sowie internationale Fahrleitungsbetrieb unsere fundierte Erfolgstätigkeit. Mit Fahrleitungsprodukten und -systemen sowie Installationsdienstleistungen für Eisenbahn, Tram und Trolleybus sind wir seit 100 Jahren Teil einer wachsenden Entwicklung.
Präsentation
Ob für Tram, Trolleybus oder Bahn: Mit der Entwicklung von Spezialprodukten, der Projektierung von komplexen Fahrleitungsprojekten, der Lieferung von Bauteilen und der Montage durch unser Fachpersonal vor Ort, begleitet Kummler+Matter eine Fahrleitung während ihrer gesamten Lebensdauer. Mit der Entwicklung von Spezialprodukten ist Kummler+Matter ein eigenständiges Produkthaus, in dem marktfähige sowie innovative Produkte auf hohem Niveau entstehen, wie beispielsweise eine neu konzeptionierte Erdungssteuerung, ein innovativer Mehrgleisausleger und speziell eine innovativ neu konzeptionierte KUSEC Streckentrennerfamilie für Straßenbahn (1,5/3 kV DC) und Bahn (15+25 kV AC/3 kV DC). Einen weiteren Schritt in Richtung moderne Technologie sind auch die neuen Volvo Group (Schweiz) AG Turmwagen mit grosser Hubarbeitsbühne der Kummler+Matter AG, die dank der neuen Hybrid-Technik, der eingebauten Remote-Control-Bedieneinheit und den ausgestatteten 3-D- Umgebungskameras sowie Sensoren ein sicheres und effizientes Arbeiten an Fahrleitungen ermöglichen.

KUSEC Streckentrennerfamilie
Bereits nach wenigen Monaten ihrer ersten Präsentation an der InnoTrans 2018, konnte die KUSEC Streckentrennerfamilie der Kummler+Matter AG in Zürich, Genf und Wien installiert werden. Gemäss den erforderlichen Richtlinien werden die KUSEC Streckentrenner so verbaut, dass sie dem Pantografen auch bei schnellbefahrenen Strecken ein sanftes Überfahren der ganzen Bauteillänge ermöglichen.

Bahnprojekte
Die Kummler+Matter AG hat alle grosse Bahnprojekte der letzten 15 Jahre gebaut. Angefangen mit der Neubaustrecke zwischen Zürich und Bern (elektrifizierte Gleislänge ca. 89km an 200km/h Betriebs- geschwindigkeit) wurde auch der Lötschberg Basistunnel (elektrifizierte Gleislänge ca. 62km an 250km/h Betriebsgeschwindigkeit) geplant und gebaut. Als drittes und grösstes Projekt, nahm Kummler+Matter im 2016 die Fahrleitung für den 2 x 57km langen Gotthard Basistunnel (realisierte Kettenwerklänge Tunnel ca.130km an max. 250km/h Betriebsgeschwindigkeit) in Betrieb.

Seit vielen Jahrzehnten bietet die Kummler+Matter AG in 14 Städten in der Schweiz ein Sorglospaket für Planung und Bau der Fahrleitungsanalagen von Trolleybus und Strassenbahn an.
