Tangier - Kenitra High Speed Line

On 2 September 2013, the National Railway Office (ONCF) awarded a contract for the design and construction of the High Speed Line between Kenitra and Tangiers to a consortium comprising Colas Rail Morocco, Colas Rail S.A and Egis Rail.

The project

This project involves studies on the design, construction, track catenary works of this first High Speed Line, which will extend over 180 km between Kenitra and Tangiers. In addition, the studies include the design and construction of two works depots: one located in Kenitra and the other in Tnine Sidi El Yamani. The depot located in Kenitra will subsequently become a maintenance depot for high-speed trains.

The consortium will also operate the closed line (from the works phase to the speed trials), logistics management and railway training under the project, using a dedicated training centre that will deliver more than 2598 certifications during the project.

At the same time, Colas Rail Morocco was awarded a contract for the construction of the Tangiers terminal facilities and the construction of fences along the track.

A project rooted in local life

The Tangiers – Kenitra high-speed line was an opportunity for our company to integrate into the local environment, in particular through local recruitment: 95% of our employees are recruited locally out of 850 in total. In addition, safety awareness sessions were developed for more than 3000 pupils in four different schools. More than 1000 women and men worked on the project.

The line was commissioned in 2018.
