Colas Rail played an active part in the original construction of the Cairo underground system since its inception: Line 1 from 1981 to 1989, Line 2 from 1991 to 2005 and, in 2007, we were awarded a contract to build the 1st phase of the new Line 3, followed by the 2nd phase in 2009. The 1999 town-planning objectives include the construction of three more lines by 2022.

The most recent works in Egypt were the El Azhar road tunnels inaugurated in 2001 and the final phase of Line 2 of the Cairo underground rail system in 2005.
