Since 2019, the creation of this new logistic base located in the city of Pontcharra (France) has been a decisive asset for our catenary teams working on the Alpes region framework contract (renewed for a period of 3 years), as well as for new acquired or futures markets connected with the Lyon-Turin rail project.

Since the beginning of 2020, the base will have already fulfilled its functions of welcoming the catenary teams of more than 10 project of the Alpes framework contract. It also supplies with materials all sites of this contract, as well as certain ancillary sites such as the construction of the Saint-Avre railway siding.
The base is managed by Rémy BOUCAUD, Team Leader, working for Colas Rail since 2008, who works with Omar BENYOUB, Logistic Assistant. The location includes:

  • A 450m² storage shed of 8-meter height, which provides a wide space for parts (bolts, copper and brass), allowing our teams to be agile and quick to supply our different sites. This indoor space has all the necessary water and electricity connections, as well as offices and cloakrooms to accommodate a team or seven to eight people.
  • An outdoor storage area of 2000m² to accommodate large and long galvanised parts, such as catenary masts. This spacious location also allows other regional agencies to have storage space for parts related to power supply and signalling, for an ever-greater flexibility and responsiveness to our client’s requests. Further, all the parts are stored by project, no risk in mixing them up!

All materials mainly come from SNCF stores but also from our Colas Rail workshop located in Ambérieu are received and inventoried before being preassembled on the base. A single and fixed delivery point to avoid delivery on worksites and therefore facilitates the work of both our clients and suppliers.

The main function of the base is to preassemble parts, making it possible to supply worksites directly with ready-to-use components or, components which require minimal on-site processing. This represents a real advantage and lessen organisational constraints on sites, in particular these are of framework-type (short operations of two to six weekends) or when these when there is coactivity (for cleaner sites). Further, preassembling parts on the base is easier as fixed-structure equipment of higher quality have been installed. This allows our teams to have access to automated equipment under workshop conditions, allowing for optimal quality of execution. Once again, the advantage of having a fixed location!
In addition to the technical and material aspects, our preparers thus have access to workstations, greatly limiting travel (to once or twice a month, only in the region). In other words, more comfortable working conditions, with efficient and adapted tools!
