Colas Rail wins a contract to extend line 1 of the Nantes tramway

Colas Rail, leader of a consortium with Colas France, has won a contract to extend line 1 of the Nantes tramway by 2.6km on behalf of SEMITAN, the semi-public company of the Nantes urban area, acting as project manager for Nantes Métropole.

The contract covers the construction of 2.6km of ballast track from the existing Ranzay terminal and Babinière in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre. It also includes the construction of a new technical and operating centre including 7.2km of train storage tracks.

Work will start in the second half of 2023 and should be completed by the first quarter of 2025.

This project represents a new opportunity to bring together the Group’s different areas of expertise on the same site with the participation of Colas France, which is responsible for roadworks and other networks. This new operation also reinforces Colas Rail’s experience and know-how in urban transport projects.

Another contract for Colas Rail in Nantes

Colas Rail has also won another contract in Nantes in a consortium with Colas France. This contract, carried out on behalf of SNCF Réseau, is about the dismantling of the railway tracks located on the island of Nantes, prior to a project to develop an urban park as part of the city’s development and the rehabilitation of its industrial wasteland.

This operation consists of the dismantling of 18km of track from a storage plateform, including rails, switches and catenary.

This new operation on the Nantes tramway follows the renewal of 480 linear meters of double track between the Commerce and Médiathèque stations, which our teams carried out in 2021.
