Colas Rail wins two new contracts for the Luxembourg tramway

LuxTram SA has awarded two contracts to Colas Rail on the D1 section of the Luxembourg tramway line. This 1.7 km stretch includes 2 stations, connecting the “Lycée Bouneweg” stop to the Y bridge near the future “Lycée Vauban” stop.

The first contract, won as part of a consortium with Tralux and Karp Kneip, involves the platform and track, including earthworks for the railway platform, laying 1.7 km of track and the construction of two passenger stations. The project also includes laying multi-tubular track, covering the platform with green track (70% vegetation) as well as installing 58 overhead contact line blocks, civil engineering, and the creation of an underground substation.

The second contract covers work on the High Voltage and Overhead Contact Line, including studies, supply, construction, inspections, and tests on the fixed and mobile installations. It comprises overhead contact line (OCL) work, excluding foundations, the low voltage, high voltage, and traction work as well as the ventilation work for the substation.

There will also be special access for the disabled.

The catenary studies began in October 2022 and the track work is slated to begin in January 2023.

This is a new step for Colas Rail in Luxembourg. Following the Luxembourg City station contract in 2021, then catenary work on the storage and maintenance center for Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, which will be completed in the summer of 2023, I am truly grateful for the trust LuxTram S.A. has placed in us to build the D1 section of the Luxembourg tramway. This project will help grow public transportation in downtown Luxembourg and will make it easier for local residents to get around. The new section will provide an optimal, reliable service and an attractive mode of transportation because it is faster, quieter and, of course, environmentally friendly“, explains Jean-François Milleron, Deputy Managing Director France Colas Rail.
